Give A Hand Up

handsUp

Military service often presents hardships to individuals and families. You can help by joining Veterans Count, a program of Easter Seals NH.

Easter Seals has a long tradition of helping individuals and families in need overcome challenges to live, work, play and thrive in their communities. With that same vision, Easter Seals NH developed a unique care coordination model, which, by design, provides military and veterans with a “hand up” and not just a “hand out.” Our Care Coordinators are able to meet clients where they live and work to address their most pressing needs: these are often financial.

Accessing Veterans Count philanthropic funds, our Care Coordinators build trust through meeting urgent needs in a highly responsive manner. We are able to provide immediate assistance without the bureaucratic red tape which discourages so many service members. Once urgent care needs are met, we are able to open doors to address issues such as PTSD, homelessness, and employment. Care Coordinators are able to provide complete wrap around services and lead their clients from crisis to self-sufficiency.

Your donation will make it possible for a Veteran, current Service Member, or a family member, to turn to us for help with:

  • Emergency Financial Assistance (housing, food, fuel assistance, gas, vehicle repair to name a few)
  • Deployment Support
  • Substance Abuse Services
  • Employment Counseling
  • Mental Health Support

We need your help! Veterans Count is a prestigious and truly effective means to make a profound and immediate impact in the lives of our military families.

John, Hospital Corpsman
“It was like a gift from God. Easter Seals was there so I didn’t have to lose my pride and integrity. There’s no shame in asking for help,” he said. “You have to have a say in what you want for your life. I’m not a hero. I’m a person with a beautiful family and I’m getting the help that I need.”

—John, Hospital Corpsman

“I wanted to be able to handle it all and do it all without needing any help whatsoever. So having Easter Seals Veterans Count come into my home was unexpected. We sat down that first time and kind of mapped out exactly what I was having problems with, what was overwhelming for me, and they really worked to ease that 100%. The extra help eases a lot of stress on my husband’s end too, knowing that we are OK here.”

—Julianna Mother of three, husband Dustin served in Iraq

Richard, Army Reserve Specialist
“For the past year and half, we felt like we were swimming. We are strong swimmers but sometimes we got tired and needed a life raft. Easter Seals was our raft. It isn’t a charity. I hate getting something for nothing. Easter Seals is a team effort and your family needs a team to help them when you are gone. You just have to have help and support.”

—Richard, Army Reserve Specialist

“If it wasn’t for Easter Seals, my life would’ve been a lot different. I wouldn’t have known where to go. My Care Coordinator was able to point me in a direction that I didn’t know existed. Easter Seals has been there all along. I never thought I’d ever need Easter Seals, but they came through again and again.”

—Bob, Army National Guard
